Some patients will find it a challenge to get used to wearing new dentures. Dentures are foreign objects and cannot replicate the exact function and feel of natural teeth. It will require practice, patience, and time to get used to the new sensation during the adjustment period. Some patients develop sore spots during the adjustment period, and there are steps to help relieve the pain. In treating sore spots, the main goals will be to relieve pain, reduce inflammation, and help fight infection. There are both products and actions that can help you feel more comfortable while wearing dentures.

Many dentists recommend putting dentures in the freezer, so when you put them back in your mouth it will soothe the irritation and help with any swelling. You can simply put the dentures in a Tupperware bowl and place it in the freezer. Sucking on Popsicle sticks or ice chips are known to help while you are waiting.
